The availability of VolunteerSelectPlusSM has
fundamentally changed the volunteer review process. More and more
nonprofit organizations are conducting background screening which,
prior to the availability of VolunteerSelect, was cost
prohibitive. The information obtained through VolunteerSelect has
changed the way organizations view their volunteers. Organizations
now see volunteers as assets, but also as potential
liabilities.
In the vast majority of cases, volunteers have their clients' best
interests at heart and perform their duties with professionalism
and dedication. But in some tragic instances, volunteers have
abused their responsibility and violated the trust placed in
them. Recent events have only highlighted a growing concern about
caregivers and the roles they play – bringing to light the
need to know more about the personal histories of those who seek
to serve children, as well as elderly and disabled people.
